One of the major reasons I enjoy wild teens so much is they keep teaching me about them, myself, and the process of adolescence. I've learned to be wary of youth workers who consider themselves too much of an "expert" to learn anything from kids. When an adult stops learning from teens, he or she has stopped learning overall and has come to falsely believe they know all they need to know.
Teens help keep me fresh, humble, and in the learning mode. After all, the only true expert on the adolescent process is someone currently going through it. After working with teens from 100 countries, I have a broad, cross-cultural and archetypal view of the entire process of adolescence. Part of Labyrinth Center's philosophy of Prevention is to bring interesting, creative and useful trainings and classes to parents and other adults working with teens.

Workshops, Presentations & Classes

I teach and facilitate a number of workshops, as well as give presentations on adolescence and my material.  The only thing more interesting than working with teens is teaching about them.  Below are links to pages explaining the workshops and presentations I do.  Most of my material is modular, so to speak, so that it can be mixed and matched, or broken down into smaller or individual components.  Also, most material is appropriate for anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who works with adolescents:   Foster parents, group home or residential staff, teachers, case or social workers, therapists, and of course, good old-fashioned biological parents.

The Adolescent Mind starts conceptual and historical, looking at how adolescents have been worldwide and throughout history.  Then it narrows down in focus to dealing with modern, American youth.

The Hero's Journey is a classic, archetypal model for helping teens through adolescence and into manhood or womanhood.  Used across the globe and throughout millennia, the Hero's Journey can be used to track individuals, or it can be woven into treatment models.
