This pedestal base is made of African Padauk (pa-duke),
and stands almost 4 feet tall.  The corners and top were mitered
together so there would be no end grain visible, thus
creating the image of a solid block of wood.
The man who commissioned this from me never paid me for it,
so I 'repossessed' it from him and now use it for myself.  It has
since cured to a dark purple color (just like people, most exotic woods
are affected by UV rays  and get darker when
exposed to sunlight).
