The Hero's Journey at the Discipline & Training stage

After waking from Conventional Slumber and accepting the Call to Adventure with its challenges, Discipline and Training comes next.  In this stage, the traveler accepts teaching, mentoring, guidance or input form others.  This is another common stage for teens to get stuck at, for while they may be awake to their problems and accepting that what they need to do is difficult, they are still unwilling to receive guidance or input from grown-ups.
In Discipline and Training, they go through a period of allowing that they don't know everything, and that others may have things or information of value to share.  If you've worked with teens, you know how often this happens (or doesn't)!!  This period may be marked by relaxing into counseling, reading books, going to classes, or just listening to an older, more experienced person.  Unless they are willing to allow other input in, they will remain stuck in this stage.

After the period of Discipline and Training, the next stage is Culmination of the Quest.
