Changes in Red
One of the basic premises of logos is product recognition. Companies Like Pepsi, Ford, or IBM, for example, will think long and hard about changing their appearance. The best logos are simple and unchanging. Regarding sports and loyalty to certain teams, many teams are know as much for their color scheme as their logo. Just look in the stands at any professional or college game, and the team's colors are apparent and flagrantly obvious. Why then, would so many teams start to market their material in not only different colors, but opposite colors, as below?
The first time I saw a teen boy wearing the blue Cincinnati Reds hat above, I couldn't place it and asked him what it stood for. He couldn't tell me, which is not the sign of a true fan. Interestingly almost every other piece of his clothing was blue also. He was from an area in the Bay Area where blue was the predominant color for gangs. |
